UC Irvine Health Sciences encompasses the College of Health Sciences and UC Irvine Health — the region's only university-based health system — as well as numerous institutes, centers and groups known for groundbreaking research and novel treatments that power advances in individual and population health.
Our mission — Discover, Teach, Heal — truly sets UC Irvine Health and the College of Health Sciences apart from community healthcare providers. With UC Irvine Medical Center, Orange County’s only academic medical center, and the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, the region's only National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center, we are leading the way in creating and imparting new knowledge.
The UC Irvine College of Health Sciences (COHS) comprises the School of Medicine, the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, the Program in Public Health and the Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing. These four entities not only develop the health leaders of tomorrow, they also conduct a broad range of educational, research and clinical activities aimed at advancing the understanding and treatment of disease, as well as improving the health of individuals and populations.
Each has an impressive portfolio of accomplishments and its faculty members reflect a deep commitment to excellence in research, education, clinical care and public service. We anticipate that the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the programs in Public Health and Nursing Science soon will become schools within the College of Health Sciences.
With the consolidation of these entities into a single college, UC Irvine Health Sciences is uniquely poised to transform the future of healthcare by taking a truly innovative and inter-professional approach to improving individual and population health. We are able to develop innovative curricula across disciplines and encourage collaboration in a unified approach to research, teaching and clinical practice.
UC Irvine Health is a team of nationally regarded physicians and nurses, researchers and clinicians, educators, students and other professionals united by a single calling — to improve the lives of the people in our community and beyond.
As the only academic care provider in Orange County and the region, our multifaceted health system plays a unique role, offering primary and specialty care at numerous locations, as well as providing unmatched trauma and critical care services, tertiary and quaternary care and leading-edge cancer treatment at UC Irvine Medical Center.
Together, the College of Health Sciences and UC Irvine Health are dedicated to the discovery of new frontiers in health, to the teaching of future healers and to the delivery of the finest evidence-based care.
This union of discovery, teaching and healing has enabled UC Irvine Health to pioneer new therapies and techniques that have been adopted by institutions across the nation. It gives us the expertise to diagnose and treat exceedingly rare conditions and diseases, always with the least invasive methods possible.
That is the UC Irvine Health commitment: bringing personalized, innovative research-driven care to our community.
